Birmingham's Annual St. Patick's Day Parade kicks off all the Irish festivities making its long, loud and lovely trek down Historic Birmingham Green. Starting at 11:30 a.m. at 20th Street and Powell Ave - it travels all the way through downtown to Five Points South. Typically held on St. Patrick's Day, the parade for 2009 will be held the Saturday before so everyone can come downtown and enjoy themselves. The Parade is one of the oldest and largest in the Southeast! All Participants Welcome!

Birmingham Irish Cultural Society's Annual St. Patrick's Day Party

For over a quarter of a century, the Birmingham Irish Cultural Society has marked St. Patrick's Day with their annual dinner and party at some of Birmingham's swankiest digs. Live Celtic Music, Irish Dance, Irish Cuisine, special brews, special guests and more fill the night as everyone turns out to mark the holiday! Funds raised at this annual event benefit a special charity every year - thousands of dollars have been raised for the Literacy Council, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The American Heart Association, The Birmingham Athletic Partnership, Kid One Transport and more. The first fundraising event for the Alabama Celtic Association took place in February 2002 to a sold-out crowd and has been playing to a sold-out house every year since. Featuring the Scottish and Irish Dance, Celtic Music, Gaelic Language poetry, full Pipe Band performance and more. A Celtic Evening: Music and Dance from Scotland and Ireland 2003 was another amazing success. Once again selling out in under two weeks, A Celtic Evening typically features a showcase of Celtic artists from across Alabama. The Exchange Club of Mobile hosts the biggest and coolest St. Patrick's event in South Alabama. The annual festivities at Bienville Square feature an Irish Stew Cook-Off - with awards for Best Dressed Chef, Best Corned Beef and Cabbage, Best Tent, Peoples Choice and more. Partnered with the Cook-Off is a St. Patrick's Day Parade that starts at the Mobile Civic Center and winds through Downtown Mobile. The events brings out the Celtic best of Mobile! All proceeds benefit the Exchange Club of Mobile Family Center and its child abuse prevention programs.

Nestled in the beautiful setting of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival grounds, this festival seems like a step back in time to enjoy the merriment of Scottish Fairs of old.
